Maria’s Blog

One of my favorite blogs is from my good friend, Maria Knee. Maria teaches Kindergarten and her blog is an open window for parents to see what their students are doing. Maria has her kids reflecting on their learning constantly with their blog (I especially love what her students are doing with Voki… here’s an example). Students are given their space on the blog for their entries and it is clearly their blog.

Thanks so much for posting about Maria’s work. These are the kind of blogs I need to see so that I can have a vision of what is possible. This is not what my blog will look like *this* year but if I can see it, I can aspire to it. I love that she made this amazing blog for such little kids. It’s easy for elementary school teachers to think that technology is best applied in high school. Your links have all been fantastic-thanks for providing us with such good resources.

Hi Bob, I am so thankful that you shared a blog from a classroom! Until now, I have been struggling with how to make a blog really useful for my students. I teach 4th grade in a school where we go to computer lab for 40 minutes a week; there just is not enough time to build the skills needed. (It really could be that I don’t have the skills) By looking at this blog created by your friend, it looks a lot like a much more interesting newsletter! I feel like I could actually do this, and there would be opportunity for my students and families to comment. Thanks for sharing!

Bob, I want you to know how much I’ve appreciated having you in class. On Monday, I couldn’t begin to see how I could use this in my second grade classroom, though I thought that I might like to create one that I could use to organize and help with my professional growth. When you came over to talk with me and I visited your site, I was encouraged and when you sent Maria’s site, I knew that I could do it. I have already tried posting some things on the web and my class has used my portaportal for several years. I’m encouraged by the things I’ve learned this week and am anxious to start.

Becky
